Tenancy Disputes will Have an Easier Road

For SE QLD there will be no more Small claims Tribunal to hear claims for tenancy matters.

The government is consolidating a number of tribunals in SE QLD including the small claims tribunal. They will be replaced by QCAT (QLD Civil Administrative Tribunal).

For Landlords and tenants this will mean that cases will be heard by an adjudicator. This should be a positive for all concerned.

There will be a 28 day time frame during which the decision may be appealed. We wonder if this will hold up the release of bond monies a detail which is still unknown at this time.

It will be possible to get a transcript in writing of the reasons for the decision at no cost and a full transcript of the proceedings for a fee.

Full details should be available from Dec 1 and we will update you further then.
